Are the bankruptcy courts open? Can I still file for bankruptcy? The answer is YES you can. Currently, residents of Maryland can still file for bankruptcy protection despite the pandemic situation. Due to the pandemic, visits to our office are not required, although you are welcome to schedule a meeting at the office if you wear a face mask and observe social distancing.
If you prefer sending your documents electronically, all documents may be sent by email, mail or fax and we conduct meetings with Zoom or other virtual technology.
The bankruptcy courts in Maryland are currently conducting all hearings by Zoom or telephonic conference as of March 2020 and at least up until November 2020. Therefore, you can get your bankruptcy case filed and attend your bankruptcy court hearings without ever leaving your home. Whether these protocols of conducting virtual hearings after November is uncertain at this point. Our office will keep you updated.
